Does Steroid Medicine cause Delayed Period?

I was wondering if taking steroid medicine for Bronchitis can delay your period? I haven t had sex since July & I had my period in August. I got sick at the beg of September & started taking the medicine for two weeks & didn t start when I was suppose to. Is that normal?

Hi.

Yes, steroids can delay the menstrual cycle. Steroids can interfere with the normal menstrual cycle resulting in delayed or irregular periods. So, it is normal to have menstrual irregularities while taking steroids. Once you gradually 'wean off' the prescribed steroids the normal menstrual cycle will some in due course of time.
